Starting primary school is a big step. The first years are an exciting and engaging time for your child. Building positive relationships and experiences in the early years is important to long-term development, learning and wellbeing. Edenhope College’s transition and enrolment process for students beginning the Foundation Year is designed to help parents and children become familiar with the College layout, the school routines and processes, and what both parent and child need to do before Day One to have a great start. Our caring and experienced Primary staff know how to prepare and reassure new students so they can begin with confidence and are less likely to be overwhelmed with the new experiences school brings. They will provide all the information, advice and support necessary to ensure the transition to school is as easy, enjoyable and engaging as possible for everyone.
To start Foundation, the first year of primary school, your child needs to turn five by 30 April of that year. Your child must be at school in the year they turn six, which is the compulsory school-starting age.
Edenhope College has scheduled Foundation preparation days in Term 4 each year including school visits and activities. An ‘Orientation Day’ is held in December. You and your child will benefit enormously from participating in these activities. Information days and nights are also held to help parents get to know what to expect and how to prepare for their child’s start to school. Enrolment preparation can be tailored for individual student needs should this be necessary. You are welcome to begin the process of enquiring about enrolment for your child at any time however we encourage you to begin as early as possible and take time to visit the school and see it operating on a regular school day. Contact the College for further information. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
